Software Potential will enforce a minimum of TLS 1.2 for all web connections as of 16th October 2023.
We previously communicated to customers our intention to end support for TLS version 1.1 in the Software Potential licensing service. TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1 are known to be susceptible to various security attacks and there has been an industry-wide push for some time now towards requiring TLS 1.2 at a minimum for secure web communications.
Vendor applications that may be affected by this change include those that use the Software Potential WCF- and REST-based web services to automate license management. The change should not affect licensed applications (using either SLP or SpAgent runtimes) other than those that submit activation requests over HTTPS.
In most applications there will no impact but we continued to support TLS 1.1 to allow our customers sufficient time to confirm that their applications using these various Software Potential web services can support TLS1.2 at a minimum. We believe that our customers have now done this successfully so support for TLS 1.1 will cease on the above date.
